Robert A. Swanwick, a lifelong resident of the area and retired educator, died after a short illness at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 83.
One of five children born to William and Helen Dineen Swanwick, he was born on June 27, 1930 in Goshen, NY. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and married Helen Roche in Queens, NY on November 5, 1955.
He was a devoted husband and father, a hard worker and good provider who was a dedicated teacher, a very spiritual man and gave endless service to our community.
Bob survived by his wife of 58 years Helen; his children, Thomas in Middletown, Michael and his wife Eliasbeth of Nanuet, NY and Susan Dailey and her husband Michael of Lake Wylie, SC and five grandchildren, Maria, Rebekah, Leah, Naomi and Christian and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 6 to 9 pm at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial with Military honors will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY, 10924.
