Obituary for Rita Marie MacGregor
Rita Marie MacGregor, age 91 of Pine Bush passed away on March 12, 2022. Daughter of the late Cesere and Noemi Muzio, Rita was born in Manhattan on April 10, 1930. Predeceased by her beloved husband, William C. MacGregor, the couple spent most of their years in Scotchtown, N.Y.
She was also predeceased by her brothers Andy, Jules, and Rudy Muzio, sister Norma Sanzone, and grandson, Timothy Gibbs.
She leaves in mourning her three children: William MacGregor (Kathy) of Pearl River, Patricia Gibbs (Vaughn) of Virginia, and Bruce MacGregor (Sharon) of Bloomingburg, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter as well as several adored extended family members.
Rita was employed for many years by the Orange County Compensation Board as a court clerk and held other employment in similar agencies.
The focus and light of Rita’s life was the husband she adored, William, and the family they built together.
Being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and meeting her great-great-grandchild was her greatest joy. Talking about family members brought a twinkle to her eyes, a smile to her lips, and was a constant source of pride and joy. She took pleasure in sharing everyone’s news (although maybe not everything disclosed to her was intended to be told to others), and this was a source of good-natured teasing with Grandma Mac.
Deep, long-lasting friendships were valued and important to Rita. She could tell vividly detailed stories from amazing events shared with loved ones throughout her almost 92 years of life.
Her in-depth knowledge and enthusiastic following of her favorite sports teams – the New York Yankees, New York Jets, and New York Knicks- were extraordinary. Coaches, players, statistics, drafts, and game times were always a topic of conversation. At times, these chats were lively when talking with someone who loved a rival team. Watching the game with a Pepsi nearby, family, and good food was time well spent.
Passionate opinions about almost any topic, including politics, could be counted on to be shared. Even when light-heartedly provoked by loved ones, Rita was not likely to back down when engaged in a controversial subject.
Many referred to Grandma Rita as kind and loving. But she was also strong and perhaps a bit feisty. These traits, softened with a caring heart, were especially needed when faced with devastating loss, painful grief, sickness, and the frustrations of the aging process.
She will always be missed but well-remembered at every special occasion and family milestone.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 18 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home from 3 – 7 p.m.
