Obituary for Rick P McCormack
Richard P. McCormack

Middletown, N.Y.

It is with much sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father and grandad, Rick “Big Rick” McCormack, on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Garnet Medical Center. He was 69 years old.

One of 5 children, Rick was born on May 1, 1953 in Queens to Mary Wade and James J. McCormack. After graduating from High School, He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975. Rick married his soulmate and best friend, Patricia O’Boyski on April 30, 1978. In 1986 they left Queens to raise their two children, Ricky and Kelly in Middletown, NY. He worked as a Corrections Captain at Rikers Island for over 20 years and retired from the job, giving up the commute and daily grind to spend more time with his family. Retirement didn’t last long for this man who liked to be active and when the opportunity came to drive a school bus for the Goshen School District he jumped at the chance. He always appreciated all the kids and people he met during his 20 years of service. In the intervening years Rick took great joy hitting the links with close friends in the spring; During summer months you could find him sunning by the pool and the fall brought him hunting throughout the Hudson Valley. Most of all though, he loved spending time with his family- He was always up for a a family party and looked forward to spending time with his younger brother Paul.

An avid reader and lover of great music Rick could found solace and peace with the radio turned up or curled up with his book in his chair. He was a member of the American Legion #151 and The Middletown Elks Lodge #1097.

Rick is survived by his devoted wife Pat, at home, his son, Ricky McCormack and his partner in parenting, Sarah Biaso, his daughter Kelly and her husband Jeffrey Ocasio also of Middletown and three cherished grandchildren, Jalissa, Alexa and Scarlett and of course his favorite pooah, Chloe. He is also survived by his brother, Paul McCormack of Massapequa. L.I. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three siblings; Jimmy, Dennis and Jeanne.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 20, 2022 at the Applebee=McPhillips Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
