Obituary for Richard M Slutz
Richard M. Slutz, a recent resident of Middletown and formerly of Philadelphia, died at ORMC on January 5, 2020. He was 89 years old.
The son of the late Harry and Rose Keller Slutz, he was born on November 23, 1930. in Philadelphia, Pa. and afterward moved to Wilmington, Delaware where he raised his family
While a teenager, his parents hoped he would study to become a doctor. Later when he enrolled at University of Pa. it wasn’t a good fit and his real love of Aeoronautics was too expensive to pursue. He had a great talent for fixing anything, so as fate would have it, he opened an auto repair shop and was an extremely successful and trusted business owner. His hobbies included writing for magazines with instructions on how to build remote planes and helicopters, something that he had much experience and enjoyment doing.
Richard lost the love of his life, Dolores Rademan Slutz in 1986. They had married in 1956 , celebrating 30 years of marriage and raising two children. Together they enjoyed season tickets to the Philadelphia Orchestra with their love of classical music, were a romantic couple who made a lot of friends through his hobby of building remote control airplanes and helicopters.
He is survived by his children; Lisa and her husband Christopher Rubbert , Brian Slutz, cherished grandchildren, Danielle A. Slutz, Brian D. Ashline, Melissa D. Rubbert and Jessica B. Rubbert and one great grandchild, Jordan D. Slutz, and all will miss him dearly.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 11 am in the family plot in Montefiore Cemetery , Jenkintown, Pa. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, N.Y. 10940. Www.applebee-mcphillips.com
