Richard L. Hansen of Westtown, NY died on Friday, December 14 at ORMC.
The son of the late Harold and Dorothy Levan Hansen, he was born on April 22, 1925 in Westtown, NY.
Richard loved his job as a dairy farmer. He retired from Alsandor Farm after many years of dedicated work. He was a member and president of the First board of education at Minisink Valley School in 1957. Richard was a Charter Member of the Minisink Valley Kiwanis, a lifetime member of Rutgers Engine Company in Johnson, NY, as well as, an outstanding County Legislator serving in the leadership position of Chairman from 1984-2001.
A family statement reads, "Dad was a wonderful man. He instilled a sense of honesty and integrity in his children. He was a man of few words but was loyal to his beliefs. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Alice. We are sure they are watching Jeopardy together battling for the buzzer."
He is survived by two sons, Robert R. and his wife, Barbara of Westtown, Richard, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Westtown; three daughters: Bree Hansen and her partner, Roger Stone of Dunedin, FL, Sandra Hadden and her partner, Robert Cerutti of Milford, PA, Lisa Higgins and her husband, Joseph of Cortland, NY; one brother, Harold and his wife, Susan of FL; one sister, Dorothy Wieboldt and her husband, Roland of Middletown; eleven grandchildren: Scott, Brett, Dana, Thomas, Adam, Paige, Angela, Ali, Justin, Anna and Sean and ten great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice, in 2010 and his sister, Jean Ethethael.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at 11 a.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home with his longtime friend and colleague, Pastor Kevin Mulqueen officiating. Burial is to follow at the Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd., Goshen, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions may be made to American Legion Charter, George Smith Post 1607, PO Box 226, Unionville, NY 10988.
Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery.
