Richard F. Laurenzi was born on June 18, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to Mary and Bernard Laurenzi. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art and
received his Master's Degree from Villanova University. He was a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship and did his internship at the Rome Opera Company in Italy.
In the late 60's he moved to Brooklyn, NY. He loved living in the city. A member of Local USA829, he worked as a scenic designer for CBS, the NY Met, and other venues such as movies, like "The Godfather" . He was also a very talented sculptor, working in marble and limestone. More recently he developed a large body of work in ceramics. He was very generous in sharing his work with family and friends.
Richard moved to Walden to be closer to his family in October 2024. He died on November 19, 2024 at his new home, surrounded by his loving caregivers. He will be missed by his large extended family and friends in the art community. He is predeceased by his parents and only brother Bernard. Richard is survived by his sister-in-law Juliana Laurenzi, his niece, Angela McCann; his nephews, Ian ( Sonia), Ben (Catherine), and Brendan (Alicia).
Visitation will take will take place from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am at St. Paul's R.C. Church, 2800 Rt. 17K, Bullville, NY 10915. Burial will take place in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown, NY.
