Richard C. Diffendale, a lifetime resident and former 16 year councilman of Town of Mamakating, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family and beloved pets, Mini and Gini. He was 81.
The son of the late Marie Brandt and Fred Diffendale, he was born on July 2, 1932 in Brooklyn, the youngest of three children. Richard married Marjorie Allen in Rock Hill in June of 1955 and they celebrated 58 happy years of marriage together.
A dedicated citizen, Richard belonged to the Mamakating Democratic Club, was a member and Past President of the Bloomingburg Fire Company; served as the secretary/ treasurer of the Bloomingburg Fire District for 44 years; was a Boys Scout leader and a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marjorie at home; his two loving daughters, Deborah Orrio and her husband Alan and Sandra Butler; all of Middletown; four grandchildren, Bryan, Christopher and his fiancee Amanda, Bill, Jr and his fiancee Crystal and Steven and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Frederick and Edward Diffendale.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Fuenral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 10 am on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial in the family plot will follow in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Bloomingburg Fire Co., 85 Main St, Bloomingburg, NY 12721 or to the Middletown Humane Society, 142 Bloomingburg Road, Middletown, NY 10940.
