Richard passe away on April 2, 2024, at the age of 89. He spent most of his last month at Garnet Medical Center and passed away at Montgomery Rehab and Nursing home in Montgomery NY.

Richard was born on November 1, 1934, to Katharina Albert in Aschaffenburg Germany. He grew up as a child during WWII and endured many hardships. As a young man he entered trade school and was trained as a Tool and Die maker in Germany. He completed a 3-year apprenticeship and worked there for several years in that capacity. He married his one and only, Sophie Groh on August 24, 1957. In 1961 they welcomed a daughter to their family. Richard had a dream of coming to America. Around 1966 he secured a job as a tool and die maker / Machinist in the US and spent the next year meeting all the requirements to be able to immigrate. He arrived, got settled, and made preparations for his wife and daughter to join him. They lived in Monroe NY until the early 1970s. At that time, Richard was hired by Reynold’s Metals can plant in Middletown, in the machine shop. He and Sophie then built a house in the Scotchtown area of Middletown. They remained in that house for the rest of their time together.

Richard worked at Reynold’s until his retirement. He and Sophie became snowbirds and spent 15 winters in Stuart Florida. He took up golf and enjoyed his time on the course. They loved to spend their winters away from the NY cold. One of his favorite hobbies after retirement was building ships, specifically naval ships, from both kits and with hand crafted pieces. He travelled on many cruises with his wife and daughter’s family. he also visited Germany every year to reunite with family and travel Europe. He was an avid history aficionado. His vast knowledge included American history as well as European and many of the wars over the years. He liked John Wayne movies and any that revolved around historical events. He did most of the upkeep of the house and cars himself and enjoyed puttering in his garage. He had many favorites stories to tell and loved to tell silly jokes which he giggled at before he was even finished with the story.

Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sophie Albert, daughter Heike (Albert) Gessner, son in law Mike and granddaughter Alexa.

The family honored his request for cremation “without fuss”. A small family gathering was held in his honor
