Richard J. Tolliver, a longtime resident of the area, passed away at Garnet Health Hospital on Tuesday March 2, 2021, he was 86.
The son of the late George and Theresa Robinson Tolliver, he was born in NYC on May 29, 1934.
He married the love of his life Obdulia “Julie” Lopez on September 7, 1967 in NYC.
On Christmas Eve of 1976, Richard and Julie moved their family to Middletown, NY where they settled in and raised their three boys, Michael, Glenn, and John.
Richard worked as an Electrical Technician for Ford motor company in Mahwah, NJ for over 16 years.
He is described as a kind person with a wonderful sense of humor and was one to rely on. He loved music, particularly Latin music and was an excellent dancer.
Richard loved to go fishing, play baseball, and was even offered a position to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was the chef for his family, he prepared most of the meals, his favorite to cook being Latin cuisine. Above all, he was a family man. Richard loved his family and would do anything for them. Not only was he a great husband, but father, grandfather, and uncle as well.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Obdulia Tolliver. Sons, Glenn and John Tolliver, daughter, Ramona Tolliver, and step-son Michael Perkins and wife Kathleen. Ten grandchildren including Mike, Brandon, Alaysia, Jordan, Averi, and Glenn Tolliver, Jr. Nieces, Irene and Betty, nephew, Robert, as well as several other nieces and nephews, and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard is predeceased by his two sons Mark and Bruce Tolliver, four brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation will take place on Monday March 8, 2021 from 10 am-12 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY, 10940, with a Service of Remembrance from 11:30-12:00. Burial will follow in Orange Co. Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd., Goshen, NY.
