Riad Salty, a longtime Middletown resident, died unexpectedly on Tuesday September 13 at O.R.M.C.. Middletown, NY. He was 62.

The son of the late Amineh and Abraham Nasser Abu Hassou, he was born on November 1, 1948 in Amman, Jordan. Riad came to the United States in 1970, and on June 28 of that year, he married Hayam Akeel Zeidan in Yonkers. Over the past 41 years, Riad and Hayam have raised seven children and shared the joy of nine grandchildren. He was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Middletown.

Riad will be remembered as the patriarch of the Salty family. He was a strong man with a quiet, abiding love for his family. Wherever he went or whatever he did, Riad always had an impact on someone. He was a loving husband to his wife, beloved Baba to his children and devoted Toto to his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Hayam at home; he is survived by his seven children; Michelle Jamieson and her husband Don of Middletown, Joanne Lustik and her husband Jim of Thompson Ridge, Richard Riad Salty, Frances Maccarello and her husband Salvatore of Pine Bush, Agnes Qaqish and her husband Jeries, Roseanne Salty and Jeany Salty; and his nephews Abraham and Wadee Hassou, all of Middletown. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Richard, Gabriella, Emilie, Salvatore, Rocco, Ava, Issa, Jacob and Lillie; three sisters, Alen Qaqish, Evelyn Salty and Evonne Sayegh and one brother Nasri Haso and many nieces and nephews.

Riad was predeceased by one brother, Nasser Hassou.

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Ave, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
