Ralph H. Broeckel, Sr., a lifelong resident of Monroe and Bloomingburg left his earthly realm on April 14, 2010 after battling a long illness. He was 59.

The son of the late William and Hanna Broeckel, Ralph was born on July 19, 1950 in Manhattan. They lived in NYC until he was 11 years old, when his family moved to Monroe. He graduated from Washingtonville High School in 1968 and a year later, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. After leaving the Marine Corps, he attended O.C.C.C.

Ralph loved life and lived it to the fullest. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later on in his life, his passion changed to classic cars. He enjoyed working on his cars with family and as well as driving with them. He attended most of the local car shows where his cars usually won a trophy. His last two cars were a 1970 Pontiac GTO and a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible, both of which he was extremely proud of.

Ralph also enjoyed people and was very personable, making alot of friends over the years. He will be missed by all those he came into contact with. Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine at home; sons Ralph, Jr and his wife Debbie of Mountaindale,

Chad and his wife Shannon of Bloomingburg and his daughter Jessica of Bloomingburg and two grandsons, Riley and Nathan. He is also survived by his brother, William Broeckel, Jr and his wife Evelyn and their two children, William and Heather of Utica and all of his relatives and close friends.

Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service with Military honors will be held at 4 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Ralph’s name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
