RACHEL GULOTTA 

November 8, 1929 - January 18, 2014

Warwick, NY 

Rachel Gulotta died at home in Warwick, surrounded by her loving family, on January 18, 2014. She was 84. 

The daughter of the late Jennie Calabria and Joseph Costa, she was born on November 8, 1929 in New York City. Rachel married Angelo J. Gulotta on February 14, 1954 in the Church of St. Teresa in Woodside, NY. They moved to the Middletown area in 1968. Rachel was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Middletown. She enjoyed Bingo, watching movies and tennis. Rachel was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her time with family. She was a good Sicilian cook who could make something out of nothing. She knitted and loved pignoli cookies and cannolis. Rachel was a very independent woman who never complained, even during her illness. 

She is survived by her three children: Michael and his wife, Cindy of Scotchtown and Philip and his wife, Reagan of Red Wing, MN and Denise Monteforte and her husband, Joseph of Warwick. She is also survived by her brother, Tony Costa and his wife, Terry of Commack, L.I. and Richard Costa and his wife, Barbara of Clarksville, MD; 11 beloved grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as an uncle, Sal Montalto and his wife, Jo and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23rd, at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
