Obituary for Quill Jackson Hamilton, Sr.
Quill Jackson Hamilton, Sr., 75 years old of Middletown, NY entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2015 after a long battle with cardiac and renal disease.

Fondly known as Hamp to family and friends, he was born on March 6, 1939 to Ben and Pearlie Mae (Williams) Hamilton in Lucedale, MS. He attended schools in Mississippi and Alabama before joining the U.S. Army in 1956. He was honorably discharged from his service to his country. He moved to New York in 1961 and remained there until his death.

As a child his musical talent became evident and was nurtured by his grandmother, Emogene Berry, who taught him organ and piano. His father Ben, who along with his younger brother Bennie on Bass Guitar would play for churches in the area. An accomplished life-long musician, with a preference for the Electric Guitar, Hamp played for various R&B groups and venues throughout the years in the U.S. and Canada. His daytime vocation was that of Auto Mechanic, which he practiced until illness took its toll.

He leaves to mourn his passing daughters Linda Hamilton Robinson, Tammy Watson, Pamela Hairston, Nikki Hairston and Shirelle Hairston and sons James Hamilton, Roy Hamilton, Quill Hamilton Jr., Joseph Hamilton, Eric Hairston, Desmond Hairston and Antoine Hamilton, 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Hamp is survived by sisters Alice Simmons, Ella Mae Peterson Ishmael and Linda Roberson and his companion of many years Regina Johnson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Hamp was predeceased by his mother Pearlie Mae in January 1984, his wife Pauline (Jordan) in August 1993, his father Ben in January 2007 and his brother Bennie in February 2009.

Service will be held at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940 on January 16, 2015 @ 11am.

Internment will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen, NY

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent c/o the family to Quill Hamilton, Jr. at 5401 Columbia Road, Apt. 925; Columbia, MD 21044.
