Phyllis D. Turoff, loving mother, sister and grandmother, died on Thursday, February 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 80.
The daughter of the late William and Celia Reiner Riskin, she was born on July 3, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY. Phyllis was the devoted wife of Martin Turoff, who predeceased her in 2010.
Phyllis was active in the Lauderdale West Community, where she has lived for the past 14 years. She contributed creative and heartfelt pieces to the community newsletter, sold tickets for the local theater, and did various volunteer work in the community office. When Phyllis was not working, she could often be found playing Mahjong and socializing with her friends. A family statement reads, “Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. The love and care that she provided to all those fortunate enough to be close to her has instilled in her family values to be carried forward in a way that would make her proud.”
Phyllis is survived by her four loving daughters, Elisa Rosenblum and her husband Scott of Middletown, Elora Kalish and her husband Mark of Highland Mills, Bari Walsh and her husband Danny of Middletown, and Wendy Manis and her husband Robert of Middletown. She is also survived by her sister, Florence Feldman of Brooklyn and her 10 cherished grandchildren, Brett, Caylin, Matt, Jarrett and his fiancé Jenna, Maxie, Cody, Bryan, Ethan, Colt and Drew, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Monroe Temple Beth El on Friday, February 24, 2017 and burial in the family plot followed in Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale.
Family will sit Shiva at Elisa’s home (15 Longview Lane, Middletown, 10941) from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017; at 2 pm on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Elora’s home (55 Pine Hill Road, Highland Mills, NY 10930); at 2 pm on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Wendy’s home (11 Thomas Jefferson Place, Middletown, NY 10940) and at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Bari’s home (105 Cortright Road, Middletown, NY 10940). Minyan will be held at 8 pm each evening during Shiva. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips
