Phyllis Ursula Mitchell of Venice, FL formerly of Otisville, died January 13, 2010 in Manor Care Rehabilitation in Venice, Fl. She was 83 years old. Phyllis was born on January 13, 1927 in London, England to the late Cecil and Dorothy Pollard Branwell.
A family statement reads “ Mom was a very compassionate, humorous person, who enjoyed helping other’s less fortunate than she. She enjoyed nature, especially the birds in her yard. She was delighted by all the egrets and ospreys in Florida. Her family will miss her many stories and jokes.” Some of the organizations she belonged to were; Polio Pioneers in the 1950’s, testing children to find a cure, Mulberry House, Otisville Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the British Empire, German-American Club and the Middletown PTA.
She is survived by her three sons; Edward and his wife Karen of Pine Bush, Thomas and his wife Mary Frances of St. Augustine, Fl., and Steven and his wife Lynn of Arlington, VA. She is also survived by her brother, John Branwell and his wife Morena of Surrey, England, sister Jane Jacobs of Neston, England and four grandchildren; Brian, Craig, Colleen, and Laurel, one great grandson, Jackson and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1983.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, N.Y. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 10a.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Farley officiating at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
