February 1, 1929 - January 19, 2015

Retired NYS Police Major Peter P. Gromacki, journeyed to the Lord peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Peter was born in the Bronx in 1929, one of six children born to the late Katherine and William Gromacki. Peter joined the Marines in 1947 right out of high school. His rank was Staff Sargeant Chief of Communications in the 8th tank battalion during the Korean war.
Peter enjoyed a 34 year career with the NYS Police which included a motorcylce patrol of old Route 17 out of Wurtsboro for five years. He was a Lieutenant, Captain, Major and troop Commander in both Troops K and F. Peter’s last assignment was as Staff Inspector at Albany Headquarters. He was a licensed private investigator and served as Wawayanda town Justice from January 1994 to December 2009.
He enjoyed sailing with his family and hunting and camping with his son, who was his best friend. He derived great pleasure from attending his granddaughters’ track meets and music concerts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Lee, who was his soul mate for nearly 60 years; his three children: Lisa, Laura, and Peter and his wife, Jennifer; and his two cherished granddaughters: Katherine and Helen. He was predeceased by all five of his siblings as well as his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Fr. John Horan, O. Carm. will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow with Military Honors in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
