Peter Coyne, a longtime area resident, died following a short illness on March 4, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 74.
The son of the late Stephen and Mary O’Grady Coyne, he was born on December 23, 1939 in the Bronx. Peter married his beloved wife, Enid Birnbaum on August 24, 1962 in a civil ceremony and later renewed his vows to Enid in a church service on October 23, 1962 in the Church of the Most Precious Blood in Astoria. He worked as a Building manager for the Newmark Company in New York City. He and Enid shared 48 years of marriage together until her death in 2010.
He is survived by his children; Peter Coyne and his wife Carol of Queens, Sean Coyne of Washingtonville and Lisa Coyne Ferguson of Astoria; his brother, Stephen of North Carolina and two sisters, Margaret of Florida and Mary MacDonald and her husband Tony of Oregon; and four cherished grandchildren, Tara Coyne, Brittany Coyne, Sean Ferguson and Stephanie Coyne; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
