Pauline Elaine Priest passed away peacefully, in her own bed, at her residence at The Gardens of North Port Florida on Thursday June 17 2021, her loving daughter Debra Carr and granddaughter Erin Carr at her side. Pauline was born on Aug. 10 1922 in Middletown N.Y. She was predeceased by her father Dill H. Werley Sr., her mother, Lydia Werley (nee Ruckert) her brother Dill H. Werley Jr., her sister Dorothy F. Werley, her first husband, Marty Symes and her second husband, Paul F. Priest. Pauline was a 1940 graduate of Middletown High School, and a 1944 graduate of the Roosevelt School of Nursing. It was while working at Roosevelt Hospital in 1945 that she met and married her first husband, Marty. The couple had two girls, Debra and Rhonda. Marty passed away suddenly in 1953 and Pauline moved her girls to Middletown. In 1957 she married Paul. The couple had attended high school together, but never dated. They had two boys, Paul and David. In 1968 they purchased the cottage on Wanaksink Lake. Pauline spent every summer there until 2017. In 1988 she and Paul sold the Middletown house and moved to Vero Beach, FL. They both loved the Florida lifestyle and, were true “Snow Birds”. Paul passed away in 2002. Pauline remained on her own in Vero Beach for the next 13 years. Enjoying the company of friends and loving the visits from family. In 2015 she moved to North Port to be closer to her eldest daughter Debbie. Her final years were spent in the assisted living facility, the Gardens of North Port. In 2019, her younger sister Dotty, moved into the apartment two doors down the hall. They were known as “The Sisters” and participated in all the activities together, until Dotty’s passing last summer. She is survived by her children, Debra Carr (Joe) of North Port, FL, Rhonda Sowden (Paul) of Attleboro, MA, Paul Priest (Vicki) of Rock Hill, NY and David Priest (Chris) of Fair Oaks, NY. Her Grandchildren Brian Carr, Jason Carr, Erin Carr, Ben Sowden, Emily Sowden-Zieda, Sandra Priest, Chelsea Priest, Joseph Priest and Katie Priest. Along with 7 Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday June 23, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, with a Funeral service at 7pm. Internment will be at the Wallkill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave. Middletown NY.
