Paula McGill Lewis, a lifetime resident of Middetown died on Wednesday March 7 in Russelville, TN, surrounded by her loving children. She was 70.
The daughter of the late Lincoln and e Charlotte Welsh McGill,she was born on May 19, 1936 in Middetown, NY. Paula was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Middletown. She was a proud graduate of MHS Class of '54, where she was both the student council president and voted Miss MHS. She attended O.C.C.C., NYU and received her degree in Speech Pathology from Adelphi University. She lovingly worked for the Valley Central School district where she was once awarded the Educator of the Year award.
A family statement reads: “Paula was a vivacious person who loved people and made each person feel that they were special.She was an inspiration and driving force behind each of her students, and they were her priority. She was loved by all who knew her and touched many lives.She was a very spiritual person who embodied the word generous. Paula's lifelong love for theater and music stemmed from her father's career in vaudeville. She would never say no to an invitation to an invitation to see a show or anything musical. It was her greatest pleasure before the birth of her grandchild in 2004”.
Paula is survived by her son, Theodore L. Lewis, III and his wife Heidi of Middletown, and daughter, Charla Douglas and husband Jon of Russellville, TN,her beloved granchild, John Henry, and her adopted grandchildren, Courtney and Layla; dearly loved nieces and nephews, Kevin, Stephanie, Sean, Christine and Darren and their children.
Friends are invited to call at the Aplebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY. Monday, March 12th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 13 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in Wallkill Cemetery Middetown, NY.
