Obituary for Patrick Shane Kennedy
Patrick Shane Kennedy, a retired Orange County Community College Professor of Art Studies, died on Monday June 5 following a courageous battle with cancer at Park Manor Middletown, NY. He was 60.
The son of Florence O. Blum Kennedy and the late Edwin S. Kennedy, he was born on January 17, 1946 in Platteville, Wisconsin. Patrick moved to the area in 1974, and received his BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
A family statement reads: “He liked teaching and sharing information with others. He was a true enviornmentalist, Patrick believed in preserving natural habitats-especially wetlands. He enjoyed flyfishing, gardening and traveling. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a fan of Van Morrison’s music, James Joyce’s writing and raising Irish Setters.Patrick was a gifted photographer and enjoyed painting as well. He was fond of both building and making things.”
He is survived by his mother, Florence of Wisconsin, two daughters, Gretchen Graber, her husband Ross and son Isaac of Airmont, NY, and Teegan Ewald and her husband Travis of Campbell Hall, one brother, Charles of Madison, WI, and his former wife and faithful friend, Peggy , of Middletown, as well as several cousins.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 8, 2006 from 7 to 9 pm at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Memorial service will be held at 8 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, N.Y.
