Patricia Joan Carey Traphagen

March 14, 1933-May 12, 2019
Patricia Joan Carey Traphagen entered eternal rest surrounded by family on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2019. Pat was a lifelong resident of Middletown, New York and a graduate of Middletown High School (Class of 1951) and Orange County Community College (Class of 1953). Following her career as a mother, home-maker, and wife, she retired from Horton Memorial Hospital’s Family Program in 1985.
Pat enjoyed playing bridge with her friends for more than 50 years, and it was always a good day when she brought home the quarters. She also enjoyed winters in New Port Richey, Florida over the past 20years, where she was a regular at the local Family Fitness Center’s Silver Sneaker Program. She was a voracious reader and took advantage of libraries wherever she lived. In her retirement, she had the opportunity to travel and enjoyed trips to Spain, Germany, France, England, and Italy with her brother Fran, as well as trips to the Caribbean with other family. Pat also enjoyed gardening and looked forward each spring and summer to cultivate her flower beds. She was a past member of the Lenten Sewing Club and was a former CCD instructor at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
Pat is survived by her four children; Greg and wife Janet (Hoffman Estates, IL.), Jeff (Middletown, New York), Terry and wife Kathy (Franklin, MA) and Pam McMahon and husband Jim (Middletown, New York). She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Stephen Traphagen and wife Julie (Oak Park, IL.), David Traphagen and wife Elsie (Downers Grove, IL.), Eric Traphagen (Buffalo Grove, IL.), Allison Traphagen (Orange, CA.), Elizabeth Traphagen (Franklin, MA.), Carey and Brendan McMahon (Middletown, New York), one great grandchild- Sloane Alexandra MinbioleTraphagen (Oak Park, IL.) and twelve nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents; Frank and Esther Carey of Middletown, New York; her brother, Francis J. Carey of Tulsa, OK., and former husband, Raymond Traphagen of Middletown, New York.

Friends and Family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on June 1, 2019 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York. Those wishing to pay their respects may begin gathering at 9:30 A.M. A service will take place at 10:45A.M. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York.
