Obituary for Patricia Elizabeth Owen
Patricia Elizabeth Owen, of Circleville, NY, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home in the presence of her loving family on Monday, January 17, 2022. Born at home in Circleville to a German immigrant father, Alfred Schubert, and an Irish mother, Mariann (Kinsella), Patricia loved the simple way of life. She spent her childhood not just with her parents and two siblings, but also with her Uncle George and Aunt Elizabeth Schubert, whom she loved dearly and counted as second parents. As a child, she was among the group of kids who started the annual Circleville 4th of July parade by marching down the street, banging on pots and pans.

She attended a one room schoolhouse in Circleville before attending St. Joseph’s Grade School in Middletown for fifth through eighth grades where she first met her future husband. She graduated from the all girls Ursuline Academy in Middletown and from Oneonta State Teachers’ College. She began her career as a First Grade teacher in Montgomery, where she worked for several years. At a reunion for graduates from St. Joseph’s, she reintroduced herself to a handsome Joseph G. Owen, with whom she began a 60 year love affair.

After marrying at St. Paul’s RC Church in Bullville, the young couple moved to Brooklyn, but Pat longed for her country life. Prior to the birth of their first child, Joe agreed to return to her hometown in Circleville, where she’d live the rest of her life with him. They raised five children, during which time, she was the most loving, supportive and attentive mother. Pat remained deeply in love with her husband, and was always happiest when he was by her side. She was a longtime 4-H leader, CCD teacher, a Eucharistic minister for St. Joseph’s Church, a 60 year member of Woodmen of the World, a 20 year member of the Local 16 Draft Board, and a member of the Town of Wallkill Republican Committee. She was a longtime member of the Town of Wallkill Conservation Committee, and an outspoken advocate for open space. She loved caring for her family, reading, cooking, nature and loved all animals. She was blessed with nineteen grandchildren, who were her pride and joy in her later years. She was always cheerful and bright, even when her health was failing.

She is survived by her husband, the Hon. Joseph G. Owen, their five children and spouses:
Dr. Elizabeth Zick (Allen), Joseph Owen (Elizabeth), Ursula Bethea (John), Patrick Owen (Kelly), and Marianne Feely (John), and her dear nineteen grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ann Connor (John), sisters in law Victoria Owen and Joanne Schubert, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Alfred.

Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or St. Joseph Church, 149 Cottage Street , Middletown, NY 10940.
