Obituary for Noreen O'Connor Mooney
Noreen O’Connor Mooney of Afton, NY passed away on October 31, 2021.
Noreen was the mother of Dave (Ellen) Mooney, grandmother of Nora Mooney, brother of Tom O’Connor, aunt of Bridget, Matthew, Kerry, and Patrick and former wife of Ed Mooney.
A Bronx native, Noreen was an alumnus of the College of New Rochelle, Columbia University, and General Theological Seminary, and was a former Maryknoll Sister. After early careers in magazine editing and grant writing, Noreen pursued her calling to the ministry. A true trailblazer, Noreen was one of the first three women to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island.
Following her career in the Church, Noreen continued her lifelong interest in art, studying and painting into her later years. Contributions in her memory may be made to a humanitarian charity of your choice.
She was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Betty O’Connor, brother Hugh O’Connor, sister Cathy Prior, and nephew Huey O’Connor.
