Middletown, NY

Nickolas Thomas Talarico, a lifelong resident of Middletown, NY, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82.

Born in Middletown, NY on July 15, 1931, he was predeceased by his mother, Ann Volante and father, Peter Talarico of Middletown; twin brother, Peter Talarico and brother, Donald Talarico of Circleville.

Nick began his career as a musician at the age of 17. He was a talented drummer who entertained the troops throughout his military career in Fort Dix, NJ. He later went on to form his own band and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and in Canada, where he met his wife of 55 years, Shirley O'Connor, of Ottawa Ontario, Canada. Throughout his musical career he made several records with his band, The Corby 4, performed as the house band drummer for a weekly television show and worked extensively in the Catskills' resorts performing with many celebrity acts.

A self-taught baker, he later made his living working for both local bakeries and for national supermarket chains. He finished his career at the age of 80, working as a driver for the county.

Nick worked tirelessly all his life for his family.He enjoyed bowling, golf and horse racing.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Talarico of Wawayanda; his son, Brendan Talarico and his girlfriend, Eileen Green of Westtown; his daughter, Michelle Ernst and her husband, Michael of Wawayanda; his daughter, Nicole Wiggins and her husband, Charlie of Campbell Hall; his grandchildren: Danielle, Nicholas and Jamie; his great-grandchildren: Armani, Alexander and Kristian and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 21st, at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nick's name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Nick will always be loved and dearly missed by all his family and all who knew him. He was a remarkable man who led a remarkable life.
