Nancy Margaret Gordon of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Highland Rehabilitation Center. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Charles Albanese and Natalie Puzziferro, Nancy Margaret Albanese was born on May 10, 1932 in New York, NY. She was raised by Charles and Rose Albanese longtime residents of Tuxedo Park, New York and the beloved mother of Kathy Strysko and Jamie Gregerson.
She was an accomplished athlete in basketball, softball and cheerleading. She was the star player for State Champion Tuxedo High School “Tornados”. After graduating from George F. Baker High School, in Tuxedo, Nancy attended Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, N.Y.. She graduated with a BA in 1954. She went on to get married, raise a family and work as a substitute teacher at George F. Baker High School. In the summer she was a lifeguard in Tuxedo Park, N.Y.
Ever cheerful, optimistic, accepting, loving, family oriented and artistic, Nancy always saw the good in people. Multi-talented, she loved performing. From an early age she sang, danced, and acted. She sketched and painted. She enjoyed floral arranging and playing cards, especially Pinochle and Solitaire. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends on the Holidays. She had a Christmas tree decorated with only butterflies. She loved nature, especially watching the birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds. In the Fall, she would take walks in the woods and make moss gardens to bring in for the winter.
Nancy was involved in the Port Jervis community and several local TV shows over the years, most notably “Nancy’s Nostalgia and Nonsense”. Nancy taught senior line dancing and would entertain in nursing homes. She volunteered at the Empowerment Center in Port Jervis where she would also give talks on various topics; the highlight being on a letter she received from the Ogdens, who were passengers on the Carpathia, recounting witnessing the rescue of Titanic passengers.
Nancy owned and operated several flower shops over the years, in NY and VA. She catered to some famous individuals. Her shop, in Virginia, made the papers when they created the huge floral heart tribute from the state of Virginia to the Challenger Astronauts.
She was divorced from the late James Gregerson. She was estranged from her current husband Z. Robert Gordon.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn Strysko and her husband Stanley of Sparrow Bush, N.Y. ; son, James Gregerson and his wife Rebecca of Hyde Park, N.Y. ; grandchildren, Kimberly Roque and her husband William of Hyde Park, N.Y., Christopher Strysko and his wife Jola of Olsztyn, Poland, Bryce Gregerson of Seattle, WA, and Jason Gregerson of L.I., NY. ; one great-grandson, Noah Roque; one brother, Robert (“Bob”) Albanese and his wife Annie of Naples, FL.
