Obituary for Naifen Chen
Naifen Chen, devoted loving wife and mother, passed away on December 25, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. She was 78.
Naifen was born in Zhejiang, China on April 6, 1940 to Mr. Chin-Hsueh Tsu and Ms. Chieh Hsiung. Her family fled to Taiwan in the 1940s as a result of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. In Taiwan, Naifen attended nursing school and became a nurse at National Taiwan University Hospital. In 1965, Naifen wed the love of her life, Albert Chen. A few years thereafter they moved to Queens, New York where Naifen continued her nursing career, serving in hospitals and nursing homes in the greater NY metro region. Her family moved north to the Hudson Valley in subsequent years, and in 1994, designed and built their own home in the Town of Greenville, NY, where they continue to reside today.
While Naifen had a successful career in nursing, she was always an avid learner and interested in a wide range of subjects. Having a keen interest in real estate and home improvement, she became a real estate agent in Middletown, NY. She also enjoyed reading and actively discussing current events, learning about computers and technology, and following various business subjects. Naifen also tended to her own garden, where seeing her flowers come to bloom each spring brought her immense joy. Her great homemade cooking was a treasure, especially her specialty walnut pancakes often made on the weekends. Her caring and kind nature, and frequent comforting smiles that laid the foundation for the family, will be missed.
Naifen is survived by her loving husband, Albert of 54 years, two sons David and George, two grandchildren Maxine and Valentina, four siblings, and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery in Middletown.
Memorial contributions in Naifen’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
