Obituary for Myron "Bucky" Simpson, Jr.
Myron “Bucky” Simpson
Middletown, N.Y.
Myron “Bucky” Simpson, Jr., a lifetime resident of Middletown and well known veteran of Foreign Wars, died after a lengthy illness at the Valley View Nursing Facility in Goshen on October 1, 2021. He was 88.
The son of Myron Simpson Sr., and Elizabeth Madden, Bucky was born on April 18, 1933 in Middletown. He attended Middletown High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably during the Korean War.
He married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Morse, on February 28, 1969 and they celebrated 52 years of marriage together.
Bucky was a man with a huge personality that brought him many, many friends; he had a great sense of humor and his dry wit and one liners will keep us in stitches forever.
Bucky proudly worked for Orange and Rockland Utilities from November 1964 until his retirement in February 1995.
He wore many hats in his lifetime and devoted a lot of time to helping others through the various organizations he joined,
the Middletown Elks Lodge #1097, the Eagles Fire Company, and as Commander of the American Legion Post #151.
His commitment to these groups kept him active and loved in our community. He was a dedicated, detail oriented, patriotic, and loyal person who will be sorely missed.
Bucky is survived by his loving wife Ruth Ann at home, his nephew, Michael Lybolt, close and dear family friend, Jim Kurpick, and many special friends, neighbors, and fellow veterans.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:30 in the morning with a celebration of life and Elk’s Service at 11:30 a.m.
Burial with full Military Honors will take place at the Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, N.Y. at 12:30 p.m.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Valley View Nursing Center for their care and compassion, as well as the friends who visited and kept him involved in the special occasions that brought much joy to our beloved Bucky.
Donations in his name may be made to the Honor Flight Network, online at www.honorflight.org.
Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, N.Y.
