Moises Birriel of Middletown died Thursday February 11, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at ORMC Arden Hill Campus. He was 90 years old. He was born on September 9, 1919 in Carolina, Puerto Rico to the late Candido and Paula Walker Birriel.

Moises was a former scoutmaster as well as a baseball couch for the little league team, the Boriguetas. He was also devoted to his church serving as an elder and treasurer. He loved to be with his family teaching card games to the children, recording the grandchildren’s singing or playing instruments. Moises enjoyed the “ caravan of family cars on road trips “ to the beach or Amish country with him leading the way with his great sense of direction.

He is survived by his loving wife Dora Medina Birriel at home, three sons Moises Jr. and his wife Anna of NYC, Sigfredo and his wife Susan of Pembroke Pines, FL., George of Utica, one daughter Paula Rivas and her husband Louis of Middletown, and his eight grandchildren Leani, Christopher, Moises, Danielle, Jennifer, Megan, Lauren and Thomas.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday February 14, and from 6 to 8 pm on Monday February 15 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10am at the funeral home. Pastor Joseph Nieves will officiate.

Burial with Military honors will follow in the family plot in St Raymond’s Cemetery in Bronx, NY

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.
