Mitchell P. Yanik, retired Police Officer for City of Middletown, NY, died following a short illness, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. He was 87.
The son of the late Stanislaus Walter and Tanka Pretyka Yanik, he was born on January 19, 1930 in Middletown, NY. Mitch attended Middletown Schools and later went on to serve his community as an officer for City of Middletown Police Dept. for over 20 years. He married Linda Joy Blankenship.
Mitch is survived by his loving wife, Linda Joy Blankenship Yanik of Ocean Ise Beach, NC and his six children: Mitchell S. Yanik and his fiance, Tracy Golish of Newburgh, NY, and his children, Mitchell C. Yanik of New Paltz, Krystle E. Caci and her husband, Vincenzo and Michael A. Yanik, both of New Paltz, and grandchildren, Mariano Yanik, and Sebastiano R Caci; Valerie Lacenera and her husband, Ron of Middletown and their children, Matthew Lacenera and his wife Maria also of Middletown, Jennifer Lacenera and her fiance, James Albrechtsen of North Bergen, NJ, and Nicole Conforti and her husband, Stephen of Goshen and grandchildren, Gavin and Jake Conforti; Jeffrey Alford and his wife, Kathryn of Middletown and their children, Jeffrey Alford, Jr. of Richmond, VA, Linda Vohra and her husband, Vesh, Amanda Alford, and Gregory Alford and grandchildren, Lilian and Nicholas Vohra; Debra Healey and her husband, Paul of Goshen, and their children, Blake Alexandra Healey of Santa Monica, CA, Brian Healey and his wife, Inessa of Montgomery, NY and grandson, Lucas; Gregory Alford and his wife, Theresa of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and their children: Adam of Austin, TX, David of Greeley, CO, Corey and Kayleigh Vanbiber and her husband, Joseph , all of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Kaycee Alford of San Diego, CA, and granddaughter, Emily; and John Yanik and his wife, Amy of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and their dog, Mojo.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday March 4 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the Yanik family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
