Mireya Velez Adames, a retired homemaker, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Elant Nursing Home in Goshen. She was 91.
The daughter of the late Jose and Carmen Rodriguez Velez she was born on May 12, 1919 in San German, Puerto Rico. She married John F. Adames (Panchito), on August 17, 1946 in the Bronx.
Mireya will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife who enjoyed family gatherings and cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Sabelia Leith and her husband William of Florida,and her son John Adames and his wife Nancy of Bloomingburg; grandson, Jason Adames and his wife Eva Marie and their three children, Francis, Gianna, and Joseph of Florida and granddaughter Ariana Adames of Middletown. Mireya is also survived by two brothers, Effraim and William and two sisters Ana and Eva Luz.
In addition to her loving husband, John, Mireya was predeceased by her brothers Adrian, Rene, Euripides and Benvenido.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Friday, March 11, 2011 follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown.
