Michele Gewing, beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother, died unexpectedly on Monday, Feburary 12, 2018 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 64.
The daughter of the late Milton Fox and Nettie Sugarman Fox, she was born on September 30, 1953 in the Bronx. Michele studied to become a teacher, earning her Master’s degree in Special Education from Columbia University. Throughout her career she held several positions as a teacher, tutor, and aide with a particular focus on early childhood intervention. Teaching children with special needs was a lifelong passion and joy. She married the love of her life, David Gewing and together they raised and treasured their two children, Jodie and Matthew Gewing.
Michele is survived by her husband of 34 years at home; her daughter, Jodie Gewing and her husband Adam Marcus; her son, Matthew Gewing; cherished grandchildren Mia and Max Marcus and one sister, Audrey Schertzer of Middletown.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am today, February 14, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will take place at 11 am at the funeral home, Rabbi Marcus Rubenstein will officate. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Beth El Cemetery in Washington Township, NJ.
Shiva will be held at the Gewing Residence at 31 Red Barn Lane in Middletown from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, February 14 through Wednesday February 21, 2018 with the exception of Friday evening (February 16).
