Obituary for Michael Ronald Brennan
Michael Ronald Brennan
July 3, 1944-March 27, 2017
Middletown, NY
Michael R. Brennan, a longtime Middletown resident, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 27, 2017. He was 72.
Born in New Forest, England on July 3, 1944, Michael was the son of the late Basil and Jean Poole Brennan. He spent his early life on the Isle of White in England, where he was chosen to play soccer for the professional South Hampton F.C. Academy because of his great talent. Michael immigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and joined the Air Force in 1963. He became a proud U.S. citizen in 1966 and credited his military service for making him the man he became.
His career in the Air Force spanned decades. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded medals for his service. He was a Master Sergeant who trained other soldiers and later worked as an AF Recruiter.
Always a guy who got things done, he was always involved in something. After his discharge from the service, he continued working as a recruiter as well as working for Local 311 in the Theater industry. He served in many offices and capacities in his Union, the Air Force and the Town of Wallkill American Legion Post 1181. Due to his own love of soccer, he was instrumental in starting the Kiwanis Youth Soccer league in Middletown. His personal sense of duty led him to him to coach and become trained as an O.C.A.A. referee to help with soccer, and he was always available to help out in whatever sport he was needed in. He stayed involved with sports as his sons grew, but kept himself out of their age groups to remain impartial.
Michael recently became involved with the American Legion Post again and when he and a colleague saw the necessity for an informative program in the schools, he help to implement the Patriot Program. He will be remembered for his energy, willingness to work with, teach and help others make things happen. He was a wonderful husband, dedicated father and beloved papa to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 ½ years, MaryJean (M.J.) at home; his son, Morgan, his grandchildren, Hunter, Emma and Ashley Brennan; and many sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Mark Stephen Brennan on October 3, 1998.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. The T.O.W.
