Obituary for Michael Francis DePiano

Michael Francis De Piano, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed

away peacefully on June 26, 2024. Born on March 20, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, to Nicholas and

Mary De Piano, Michael, affectionately known as 'Mike', leaves behind a legacy of love and

service.

Mike married his best friend's sister, Antoinetta Alifano, on January 27, 1951, at St. Francis

Church in Brooklyn. Their union spanned an incredible 73 years, filled with devotion and

companionship.

A proud WWII veteran, Mike served honorably in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 and was

awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery and dedication to his country. After the war, Mike

settled in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where he became a well-known figure as the proprietor of

Mike’s Pool Hall on Nassau Ave and Lorimer St. Even after retiring from the pool hall, Mike

continued to work as a doorman on the East Side of Manhattan, a role that allowed him to

continue connecting with people and enjoying city life.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Antoinetta, his daughter Debra and son in law John

Voloshin, his son Michael, and his daughter Karen. He was a cherished grandfather to Greg

Voloshin and his wife Victoria, Danielle Garcia and her husband Marz, Amanda and her

husband Evan, and Francesca. He was a doting great-grandfather to Marz, Drew, Mikey,

Brady, Ava, and Angelina. He is preceded in death by his brothers Tony and Nicky, his sister

Bridget, and his parents Nicholas and Mary De Piano.

Throughout his life, Mike touched the hearts of many with his warmth, generosity, sense of

humor and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by

all who had the privilege of knowing him.
