Obituary for Michael Curtis
Michael Curttis
5/11/47-6/18/21
Middletown, NY
Michael Curtis died peacefully in the early morning hours of June 18, 2021 at Garnet Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He had valiantly, courageously and without complaint fought multiple health battles for many years. He was 74.
The son of Helen (Jones) and John Curtis, born 5/11/47, he was a proud Middletown native and resident all of his life who touched the lives of so many along his life's journey.
In his professional life, he was proudest of his years serving as a deputy in the Orange County Sheriff's Department, leaving due to his ill health was a hard blow.
A US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was selected to take an Honor Flight to our nation's capital, a major highlight in his life.
He was a member of the BPOE where he served a term as Grand Exalted Ruler.
Mike was an avid lover of golf. He was a longtime member of the Al Turi Memorial Golf League. Having instilled in his son the same love of the sport, he remained an avid fan of the game long after he could no longer play.
Above all else though his greatest interest, life role and achievement was his focus on his family. He was the ever caring and loving husband of Cheryl, his high school sweetheart. They married in 1968 immediately on his return from Vietnam.
Together they loved and supported their 3 children, all of whom were blessed with so much of their Dad.
Sadly, the family lost David, the oldest at the age of 35, having fought his own physical challenges in ways so like his Father. He also lost his dear brother Jack 6 years ago.
He remains in the heart of his dear wife Cheryl, his son Scott, daughter Stacey and husband Dave, 2 grandsons the blessings of his life, David John Fairweather and Liam David Curtis, granddaughter, Meghan Fairweather. His sister Carol and sister-in-law Kathy, his sister-in-law Dolores , brother-in law Bill, Aunt Mary Jones and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
