Obituary for Melvin G. Kahrs, Sr.
Melvin G. Kahrs, Sr., a lifetime area resident, died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 64 years old.

The son of the late Herman and Idabelle Eldred Kahrs, he was born August 21, 1941 in Honesdale, PA.

He was an employee of the Hartwood Club in Forestburgh, NY.

A family statement reads, “Mel was an industrious man around the house. Considered a jack of all trades, he could fix just about anything. He enjoyed traveling with Pat, listening to country music, helping others, and he loved spending time with his family.”

He is survived by his loving companion of 38 years, Patricia Brown, at home; their daughter Tammy Sherman and her husband, Bill, of Wurtsboro; one son Edward Utter and his girlfriend, Melissa Call, of Bloomingburg; five grandchildren Freddie, Tony, Nicky, Stefanee, and Victoria; three brothers Joseph and his wife, Cathy, of Sparrowbush, Frank and his wife, Alberta, of Ferndale, Jimmy of Grandberry, Texas; three sisters Alice Phillips and her husband, Richard, of Port Jervis, Pearl Overacker and her husband, Harold, of Illion, NY, Mary Walker and her husband, James, of Lititz, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Melvin was predeceased by his son, Melvin G. Kahrs, Jr. in 1990, two brothers John and Fred Kahrs, and three sisters Margaret Teeple, Helen Furman and Elsie VanGorder.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 14th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.

A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, February 15th at 2 pm at the funeral home. Rev. Timothy Woodard will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family plot at Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
