Mary Martins, a longtime Spring valley resident, died following a long illness on December 7, 2016 in the comfort of her loving daughter’s home in Middletown. She was 100.
The daughter of the late Stephan and Agnes Warechol Salak, she was born on November 22, 1916 in the Bronx. She married Albert Martins who predeceased her in 1973. Mary worked for many years as an assembler and shop stewart for Consolidated Stamp Factory. Mary was a gardener who loved flowers. She was a history buff who enjoyed reading anything she could get her hands on.
Mary was also an excellent baker who liked cooking for others.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Nicole Sells and her husband Larry of Denver, CO and Elvira Schoonmaker of Middletown. She is also survived by her sister, Stephanie Kennedy of the Bronx, and two grandsons, Erik and Mark Sells of Denver, CO.
In addition to her husband Albert, she was predeceased by her sister, Helen Kashynski, brother Julian Salak.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 10 to 11 am at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Monday at the funeral home, burial will follow in the family plot in Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley.
Elvira would like to thank Hospice, especially Kristine Hilsmann, Suzanne Holiday and Sr. Ann Daly for the care and love they gave to Mary and her daughter.
