December 4, 1941 - January 14, 2011

Middletown, NY

Mary Margaret Mitchell of Middletown, died Friday, January 14, 2011, at Middletown Park Manor. She was 69. The daughter of the late Cornelius and Abigail Driscoll Sullivan, she was born December 4, 1941 in New York City.

Mary married John “Dewey” Mitchell on February 25, 1962, at St. Anthony's Church in the Bronx. After moving to the Middletown area in 1975, she began working in Town of Wallkill for the Police Dept. and both Judge Owens and Judge Freehill. She worked on the Administrative staff at Troop F of the N.Y.S. Police in Middletown, she retired from the State Police after 25 years of service. Mary was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan; she loved bowling, Bingo and the Giants too. She enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, John and Scott of Middletown; her four daughters: Catherine Hosking and her husband, Kenneth of Greenville, Christine Vega and her husband, Peter of Middletown, Connie and Randy Brockett of Otisville, and Carol Mitchell of Middletown; one sister, Sheila Donahue and her husband, Martin of Spring Lake, NJ; five beloved grandchildren: Matthew, Danielle, Stefanie, Alexis and Derek; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Corbin, and 17 nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her brother, Patrick Driscoll and her nephew, Stephen Driscoll, NYPD ESU Truck 4.

Visitation hours will be from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 19, at the funeral home. Rev. Patrick McGuigan, O.Carm will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Middletown.
