September 14, 1924 - April 15, 2014

Middletown, NY

Martin Markovits, a retired Business Professor at Orange County Community College, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at his home in Middletown, NY. He was.89.

One of four children born to Lillian Stone and Joseph Markovits, he was born on September 14, 1924 in Middletown, NY.

He married Junice Green on January 4, 1948 and celebrated 66 years of married life together. He owned the Markovits Food Mart in downtown Middletown and retired to teach Business classes at OCCC. He liked watching the stock market; was an avid tennis partner and golfer with his son, Sam, and he was proud of being a contrarian at all the Faculty meetings. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who was a passionate teacher and devoted family man.

He is survived by his loving wife, Junice, at home; his daughter, Dora Cagnetto of Phoenix, AZ; his two sons: Sam Markovits and his wife, Robin of Middletown; Bill Markovits and his wife, Nancy of Cincinnati, OH; his sister, Estelle Schwartz of Vermont and seven grandchildren: Demian, Sarah, Rebecca, Alexandra, Adam, Andrea and Alex; five great-grandchildren: Alicia, David, Kylie, Justin, and Luca. He was predeceased by his brother, Wilbert and sister, Janet.

A Graveside Service will be held at Noon (12 p.m.) on Thursday, April 17th, at Temple Sinai Cemetery, Circleville, NY.

Donations in Martin’s name may be made to the SUNY Orange Foundation for the Markovits Scholarship, 115 South St., Middletown, NY 10940.
