Obituary for Martha Lounsbury
Martha Bull Lounsbury, who passed away peacefully on the morning of August 6, 2021 at eighty-five years of age, was a voracious adventurer who found home wherever she landed, be it Middletown, Wanaksink Lake, or Pheonix, Arizona.
Predeceased by sister Lucille Bull, sister Virginia Bull Meath, and granddaughter Lauren Lounsbury; survived by sister Mary-Jane Bull Sorrell; son Wayne and wife Dorrie Lounsbury, grandchildren Taryn and husband Brian Sprinkle, Kyle Lounsbury and fiance Jeannie Womick; son Gregg and wife Jody Lounsbury, grandchildren Meghan and husband Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Lee, Alyson Wild, Lindsay and husband A.J. Dewitt; great-grandchildren Andi Dewitt, Jacqueline Dewitt, Olivia Lee, and Camden Lee; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Marty, as she was affectionately known, cared a great deal about her family and those she befriended, and was beloved in return.
A fantastic storyteller, caring nurse, and a woman dissatisfied with the status quo, Marty was a passionate advocate for the Women’s Liberation Movement, marching for her dearly-held beliefs. In addition, she skied, sailed, rode horses, danced in musicals, read everything she could get her hands on, traveled the country, and fully enjoyed every meal she sat before.
She had a zest for life, a quality that served her well as she navigated life’s inevitable storms, including an illness that led to a coma in her fifties. Rather than let this diagnosis stop her, Marty lived for another twenty-six vibrant years.
We remember her as a loving mother, aunt, sister, godmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and as an excellent friend. Above all, Marty is remembered for her fierce, indomitable spirit. May she rest in power.
