Maria T. Pinto, former Vice President of First Federal Savings in Middletown, died following a long illness surrounded by her family at her home on Monday, December 29, 2014. She was 67.
The beloved daughter of Francesca Petrizzo Torre and the late Pietro Torre, she was born on March 16, 1947 in Sassano, Salerno, Italy. She came to America with her family as a child in 1951 and settled in the Middletown area. She married Gaetano Pinto on July 5, 1969 at St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown and they have shared 45 happy years of marriage together. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church and a board member and treasurer of People for People since 1999.
Maria was the oldest of four children and took care of everything and everybody. Her core values; family, God and friends were her priorities throughout her lifetime. She will be remembered as a strong, resourceful and generous woman who was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was enamored with her grandchildren. Dinnertime was always very important to her. Maria shared her love of cooking with her family and centered all of their gatherings around her beautifully prepared meals. In addition to her loving husband Gaetano, and her mother Francesca, Maria is survived by her daughters, Tonia Crown and her husband Todd of Middletown and Christina Fay and her husband Christopher of South Orange, NJ; and one son, David Pinto and his wife Sharon of Newport News, VA. She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph Torre and Paul Torre and his wife Valerie; and 8 cherished grandchildren, Gabriella, Matthew, Elena, Ryan, Abigail, Christopher, Sofia and Nathaniel as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister, Josephine Torre in 2005.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Middletown.
