Maria V. Rodriguez, a beloved wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother, died on November 19, 2020. She was 84 years old. The daughter of Pedro Velilla and Gregoria Pinto. She was born in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico and moved to New York when she was 14 years old. She spent the majority of her life in the Bronx and moved to Middletown in 1996.
Maria was known affectionately by everyone as “Flor”. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. When her youngest of 5 was in 8th grade, Flor joined the workforce and was employed by the Federal Government. She was a Data Appraiser for Housing and Urban Development for 21 years, and has retired from H.U.D. Flor loved showing her love by feeding everyone. She loved cooking and sharing her home with her family and friends. She was always super helpful with anyone in need, and often translated for those who didn’t speak English. She was very kind hearted. Flor loved hosting every holiday and the more people in the house the happier she was. She was especially fond of all her 12 grandchildren and 2.5 great grandchildren. She was a lot of fun to be with and always played with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George L. Rodriguez Sr.
Son, Edwardo and his wife Beverly Rodriguez, Daughter in-law Sonia Crespo, Daughters, Marisel and husband Ferdinand Morales Jr., Yvette and husband Edwin Ayala, Luisa and husband Gonzalo Arias.
11 grandchildren, Christina and husband Matthew Bartlett, Christopher and wife Yaimy Rodriguez, Justin and wife Tricia Rivera, Sedric and wife Elizabeth Rivera, Samantha and husband Ryan Murray, Alexander-Julian Ayala, Jessica Ayala, Edison Rodriguez, Erica Rodriguez, Victoria Arias and Elizabeth Arias.
2.5 great grandchildren, Nina Rivera, Adelina Rivera and one more on the way January 2021.
She is predeceased by her parents, Gregorian Pinto and Pedro Velilla, her sister Aracelia Flores, her son George L. Rodriguez Jr., and her grandson Nolan F. Morales.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 25, 2020 from 10-11:30 am at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Ave., Middletown NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 pm, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Ave., Middletown, NY. Burial will follow at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
