Obituary for Maria Proia
Maria Proia, 94 of Middletown died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. Born Marie Simoni in Colli, Italy on April 1, 1911, Maria was married to Antonio Proia in 1945, a Middletown resident since 1907. Maria and Antonio settled in Middletown in 1945 and were joined by their son Anthony soon thereafter. Antonio died in 1977 and Anthony died in 1992. Maria was a longstanding member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church of Middletown where she was a member of the Lady of Assumption Society.
Maria is survived by two grandchildren, Gina and Anthony Proia and her daughter-in-law Lucille Proia. A great-grandson, Anthony Jr. was born in December of 2005.
Maria is also survived by one stepson, Guirino Proia of Pembroke Pines, FL. and six step grandchildren, Sandra Bruni-Walko, Lisa Proia and Gennaro, Frederico and Mario Bruni and several nieces and nephews. Maria was also predeceased by two stepchildren, Elia Proia Bruni and Louis Proia, both of Middletown.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, March 17, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 11:30am at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Middletown. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
