Obituary for Margarita Ortiz
Margarita Ortiz, 85, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020, at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown NY.
The daughter of Modesto and Carmen Ortiz, Margarita was born February 8, 1935, in Corozal, Puerto Rico.
At the age of 18, Margarita moved from Puerto Rico to the Bronx, NY. She was met at the airport by family and their friend Ramon, who drove them there to pick her up. The car must have been driven by angels, because Ramon spent more time looking at the rear mirror at her, than he did looking at the road. They fell in love, married and had 6 children (5 Boys and one Girl, their princess) She considered herself blessed by God with the privilege of being a house wife, mother, caregiver to her predeceased mother Carmen, grandmother and great-grandmother. She truly enjoyed family gatherings. Cooking for the multitudes and just spending time together for no especial reason, just because. On family outings, she played softball, or pocket, but Bingo was her game. She knew that time is the only thing you couldn’t get back and enjoyed every moment being surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Ramon Jr. and wife Martha, Edwin and wife Miriam of Monroe NY, David and wife Ceci, Sammy and wife Erika from Mount Hope, NY, and Danny and wife Leslie of Highland Mills and predeceased daughter Edna and husband Thomas of Monroe, NY. She also leaves behind several sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday June 4 from 2 to 4pm at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave, Middletown NY. She will be flown to Puerto Rico for visitation on Monday June 8 at Funeraria y Cementerio Del Pilar. 18000 Ave 65 de Infanteria, Canovanas, P.R., and interment will be on Tuesday June 9 at Cementerio Los Cipreses, Bayamón P.R.
