Obituary for Margaret Marie Casteleiro
MARGARET MARIE DONOVAN CASTELEIRO

July 4, 1920 - April 29, 2012 Town of Wallkill, NY Margaret "Peg" Casteleiro, a resident of the Town of Wallkill for 38 years died after a two-month illness on Sunday, April 29 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 91 years old.

The daughter of the late Patrick Francis and Martha Matilda Donovan, Margaret and her twin sister, Marion, were born on July 4, 1920 in Scranton, PA. Marion died as a young baby. Margaret’s five older brothers and sisters: Patrick, Grace, George, Helen and Allan all predeceased her.

Margaret’s family moved to New York City when she was in her senior year of high school. On December 15, 1939 she married Mariano Aurelio Casteleiro, known as Mario. They were close to celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary at the time of Mario’s death in 1994.

Family meant everything to Peg. Her survivors include her loving daughter, Marion and two beloved sons, George Robert and his wife, Trudy Ann and Paul John and his wife, Darcy. Margaret’s four grandchildren: Kristen Marie, John David, Julia Faye and Jim brought her tremendous joy. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Margaret had great energy and loved to work taking care of her home and family. She was also a career woman who was employed for 34 years by the Young and Rubicam Advertising Agency in Manhattan. She retired right before her 71st birthday.

Peg enjoyed caring for her home both inside and outside. She liked yard work and shoveled snow and mowed her lawn with great enthusiasm. She never let her age affect her ability to complete difficult tasks. She had a keen mind and enjoyed current events. Margaret read the newspaper cover to cover every day and kept up with the happenings in today’s world. She was a faithful note writer and looked forward to when the daily mail arrived.

Margaret had a tremendous talent for crocheting. She made the most beautiful blankets. Crocheting was one of her favorite pastimes, along with baking and cooking for her family.

When in her early eighties, Peg suffered breast cancer. She handled this frightening experience with determination and completed her surgery and treatments with a positive attitude and successful outcome.

She was a woman of faith and relished her membership to St. Joseph’s Parish, Middletown. She served in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel every Friday for more than ten years.

Margaret was unfailingly kind. Throughout her recent illness, she was appreciative of everyone who cared for her and never complained, even in her deepest trials. She demonstrated courage and great dignity in very challenging times.

Her passing is a tremendous loss to her family. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in honor of Margaret’s memory.
