Margaret M. Botens, a retired O.R. Supervisor for Horton Hospital in Middletown, died on June 3, 2013 at Middletown Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was 93.The daughter of the late Edward and Helen Tiffany McKeon, she was born on May 29, 1920 in Middletown.
Margaret grew up in Middletown and was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Middletown. She proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. Margaret trained as a nurse and was a dedicated employee at Horton Hospital in Middletown for 42 years, retiring in 1989 as a Operating Room Supervisor. Following retirement, she taught at BOCES for three years. Margaret was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Nursing Association, and Nurses First. Family was foremost for Margaret, she was a dedicated and loving grandmother. She brought her gift of nurturing and her special touch with her everywhere. She comforted patients, supported friends and touched the hearts of many. She will be dearly missed.Margaret is survived by her daughters: Sharon Evans-Pastore of Middletown and Helen Botens of Dingmans Ferry, PA; sister, Loretta Talmadge of Middletown; grandchildren: Bill Evans and his wife, Stacey, Michelle Evans and Rebecca Martinez; two great-grandchildren: Samantha and Charlotte Evans; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis P. Botens; brother-in-law, Norman Talmadge; niece, Loretta Talmadge, and son-in-law, Ronald Pastore.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 6th, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7th, at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown.Margaret's family wishes to extend special thanks to all of the staff of Unit 4 at Middletown Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for everything they have done for her and her family during her stay.
