Obituary for Margaret Casazza
On March 21, 2006 Heaven welcomed our mom, Peggy, home.
She was born to the late Margaret Hurley on May 15, 1932, in Holyoke MA.
If her name isn’t familiar to you perhaps you remember her bright blue eyes as she made you smile while taking your picture at the DMV
in Newburgh-there would be no “mug shots” on her watch. Or maybe she was the first person you spoke with at the Orange County
Community College, Newburgh campus. She was in the lobby assisting students, prospective students and faculty with questions and projects. We knew her as Mom. Throughout her 73 years she traveled with her family and settled down in VT, IL, NJ, CA, NV and NY. She loved to get behind the wheel of her car and go for drives. She would go in search of Arts and Craft fairs, yard sales and in the spring she could not pass by a
nursery without stopping, she had to find the perfect flowers for her
breathtaking container gardens.
Everything Mom made or did, she did
with love-from our Easter dresses as children to the meals she made for her family-LOVE was the main ingredient. Mom wasn’t a woman who spoke
just to hear herself speak. When she spoke you heard the truth, even if you
didn’t want to hear it. When she didn’t speak , her silence spoke volumes or you were in trouble! She is survived by her three daughters, Elisa Ayer and her husband Wes, of
New Jersey; Judy Casazza of New Jersey; Andrea Mulligan and her husband
Kevin of Unionville, New York with whom she shared her final year of life.
Peggy was “Grammy” to Nikki Randall, Joseph and Scott Pagnotti; she was
“Mema” to Ashlee and Wesley Ayer and to Andrew Mulligan she was his
very own ” Happie..”
She leaves behind her brother James Hurley, sister Patricia Lembo, and
Helen Matola, all of New York and several nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by sisters Noreen Olmstead and Joanne McKay. She also
eaves behind many cherished friendships, both old and new, her life was
enriched by each and every one.
A celebration of her life will be held at the convienence of the family.
Cremation was private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550
Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
