Obituary for Margaret Ann Mitchell
Margaret Ann (Farrell) Mitchell
July 16, 1934 – June 27, 2021
Middletown, NY
With heavy hearts, the Mitchell and Bonfanti family regret to announce the passing of our beloved Margaret Ann Mitchell, a longtime resident of the Town of Wallkill passed away at Garnet Health Medical Center on June 27, 2021. Margaret “Peggy” was born in Manhattan to Andrew Farrell and Anna O’Connor. She was raised in Astoria, Queens, NY. As a young woman, Peggy began work at the New York Telephone Company. It was there that she met a young Navy man, Charles F. Mitchell, Jr., at a company function. On March 1, 1958, she and Charles were married in Manhattan, settled in Bay Ridge Brooklyn where they welcomed into their family their Daughter Deborah, and later on their son Charles. In August 1971, they settled in Scotchtown to raise their family.
Peggy was a devoted mother and always took pride in her children’s accomplishments. After moving up to Orange County, “the Country” she soon realized the need to drive and fulfilled her personal goal and got her driver’s license at the age of 39. Peggy was an avid reader of mystery novels, loved a good classic black and white horror movie, a glass of chardonnay or a well-made Manhattan shared with loved ones. She was also known to be a regular at her local Dunkin’ Doughnuts and preferred when visiting her, you walked in with DD in hand!!
She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Daughter, Deborah Bonfanti, Deborah’s husband Edward, her son Charles and his wife Laura, her devoted grandchildren Maria (Nolan Groom), Stefanie Bonfanti, Edward (Jill) Bonfanti, and Sydney, Liam and Colin Mitchell. She took great pride in becoming a great grandmother and welcomed into her heart her Great Grandchildren, Nolan, Meadow and Noble Groom and the newest addition, Riley Bonfanti.
The family will be receiving friends and loved ones on Thursday July 1st. from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30am on Friday July 2, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the wonderful care given to Peggy during her final hours to the staff at Garnet Health Medical Center.
If desired, friends may make a donation in Peggy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
