Margaret “Marge” A. Larkin, a lifetime New Hampton resident, died on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Highland Rehabiltiation Center with her loving children at her side. She was 102.

Marge was born on April 19, 1911 in New Paltz, the daughter of the late Catherine Gilhooley and Thomas McManus. She graduated from Garr Institute in Goshen and was a member of the first graduating class of the Horton School of Nursing in Middletown. Marge married Roland F. She dedicated her life to taking care of others, always maintaining her warm and happy disposition. She inspired her family with her endless love, strength, spontaneity and accepting attitude. On McManus Road, Nana’s door was always open, and she was always there with her beautiful, infectious smile. She raised four children, shared a partyline with her sister, cared for ten grandchildren and guided a family through love and prayer from her house on the hill. She was a born nurturer who blessed four generations with her gifts. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose compassion was constant and served as a model for all.

She was lifetime member of, and Eucharistic Minister for, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church; a member of the Thrid Order of Carmelites, member of the Irish American Club; former Matron of the Wallkill River Juvenile Grange and past Aide to the Grand Marshall of the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. She was also voted the Elks Mother of Year in 1981.
