Madeline T. Sparks of Middletown, died on Saturday January 28 at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen, NY, after a short illness.
The daughter of the late Thomas E. and Edith DeLong Moran she was born on June 22, 1918 in Boston, MA. Madeline worked as a staff attendant for Middletown Psychiatric Center until her retirement in 1975. Madeline married Paul A. Sparks in 1943 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Priory; they were married 55 years.
A lifetime resident of the area, Madeline was raised by her Aunt Annie and Uncle Bill Donovan after losing her mother due to the flu epidemic of 1918. A family statement reads: “ Madeline was beautiful, both inside and out.She had great spirit and determination, she could do anything. She developed many talents in her lifetime, and was an avid bingo player. The light of her life were her granddaughter Paula and her great-grandsons.”
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Mary Anne and her husband George Paradise of Bloomingburg; her loving granddaughter, Paula Paradise-Chiappane and her husband William and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Justin of Ridgefield, NJ, as well as 3 nieces, Susan, Theresa and Beverly and nephew Richard.
Madeline is predeceased by her husband Paul A. Sparks in 1998, and son, John in 1991;predeceased by her brothers Francis and Joseph and her half brother John Moran and half sister Agnes Moran Minersman.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Aplebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church, Bloomingburg, NY. Fr. Raymond Bagdonis, O. Carm. will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Rt. 17M, Bloomingburg, NY.
