Luigi C. Delillo, Middletown’s “Loveable Lou”, died on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 89.

The son of the late Frank and Julia Leo Delillo, he was born on October 15, 1924 in Middletown. An extremely patriotic man, Luigi proudly served in the U.S Army. He was a member of the American Legion, B.P.O.E. # 1097 and the McQuoids Fire Dept. While he was stationed in England during World War II, he met Joyce Reynolds, who would be the love of his life. He and Joyce corresponded during his years of service and in 1946, Joyce sailed to the U.S. to marry Luigi. They married on December15, 1946 in St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown.

He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Middletown, where he was known for his loveable personality and warmth. He also worked for Eckerds Pharmacy where his name tag actually read, “Loveable Lou”. He was a wonderful family man who loved kids. He was generous and donated to all of the charitable causes. Lou loved to bowl on a league and was a member of the 700 club. He also enjoyed gardening and golfing.

He is survived by his three daughters, Julia Marasco of Lexington, KY, Mary Diana and her husband Edward and Margaret Siena and her husband Neal, all of Middletown; two sisters, Carmela Yanez and Christine Delillo of Middletown; six beloved grandchildren, Erin Schulte and her husband Ben of Lexington, KY, David Marasco and his wife Jessica of Monroe, OH, Danielle Smith and her husband Marty of New Hampton, Lindsay Diana and her fiance John Shepherd of Scarsdale, NY, Margaux Toral and her husband Dino of Whitehouse Station, NJ, and John Siena and his fiance Roselene Vasquez of Middletown; and his great-grandchildren, Mara Bea, Joey, Ava and Marc Anthony and Siena and Marcello; several nieces, nephews and many loving friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Joyce in 2011, one sister, Mary and brothers, Frank and Chris.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home , Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940, Fr. Dennis Nikolic will officiate. Burial will follow the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Military Honors.

Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home , Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940, Fr. Dennis Nikolic will officiate. Burial will follow the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Military Honors.
